want to rent out property.(uk)?

rent property short

hi all, i have a property which i want to rent out. i’ve tried agents etc, but they appear to be dragging their heels, so i was thinking of renting it to the ‘Housing Association’, as they are always short on houses, would this be a good idea?

can anyone give me a number ? my house is in Ebbw Vale, Wales.

thanks all

  3. I agree with the Answerer above; it can be much better to just rent it out yourself. Most agencies take a great fee for absolutely nothing. HOWEVER you don’t say where you live and in order for it to work, you need to live near the property. You need to be able to go over to deal with emergencies and maintenance.

I wouldn’t rent to a Housing Association. The upside is that you are almost guaranteed that the property will be constantly rented, meaning that you don’t have to worry about not finding tenants. The downside is that they let it out at far below the market rate, and usually this doesn’t compensate for the fact that it’s constantly occupied. Furthermore, if you do this, you will have no say whatsoever on whom the house is let to. Whilst I wouldn’t want to go so far as the first Answerer who seems to think that all Housing Association tenants are scum, the bottom line is, if you’re managing the property then you get to choose who lives there. You can accept or reject people on whatever grounds you like.

  4. Put up a For Rent sign today. Don’t let it sit vacant for another 3 weeks. Keep lowering the rent until you get a great tenant. Check all references and get a credit check. A local mortgage broker can refer you to a credit check company.
The Housing Association gets the government involved in your private business. I don’t think you are mentally ready at this point. You need to get the property successfully rented today and you can do it..
