Replace or refinish cheap laminate kitchen cabinets?
I have white (builders standard kitchen cabinets) the cabinets are very cheap (not solid wood) the laminate (is that what you call it?) has started peeling off some of the drawers. How can I repair this? I would rather not replace them as that sounds costly as we will be listing the house for sale in a year.

The easiest way is to trim off any hanging edges of the old veneer. Then you will need to painstakingly sand everything down a couple of times till you get a nice even surface.
Wipe them down.
Prime with a good quality primer like Zinsser(tm). and them paint. Depending on the paint, it may require 2 coats but usually when you use a good primer, one is enough.
I recommend taking any hardware off before you begin.
Also, it’s much easier if you take the cabinet doors and drawers down.
Replacing is a good option but to replace with any upgraded materials requires some skill and a fairly healthy budget. In todays market, you might not see a return on that investment.
Refinishing is your best bet.
If you want to do it yourself, unless you are good at that sort of thing, it will cost you about the same as someone who specializes in these things. You may come out ahead by a few dollars but getting it done is what I would choose if I were you.
Yes, I am good at furniture refinishing but kitchen cabs is another story. If you can, have you considered painting it after a good prep and a good base coat?
Yellow pages to your aid… of course.
Those white things some builders call cabinets can’t be refinished. they need to be replaced.Go to Lowes and check . Make a sketch of your kit.
Price a new kitchen at Home Depot. The Mills Pride cabinets that you need to assemble yourself are very low cost.
Refacing crap is still crap.
