my co-op is renovating the hallways, can they make me replace bathroom tiles?

replace bathroom

the super said I must replace the tiles in my bathrooms to guard against future leaks. He said he would replace the tiles, for $3800., around the bathtub, but only up to 24 inches. He is not an engineer and said that just by looking he could tell there was moisture seeping thru the tiles. I hired an engineer who used a meter to measure moisture and he was unable to detect any moisture in the walls.

  1. Sounds like you are unskilled and easy pray for unscrupulous superintendents

  2. I’m in an apartment, I thought when something goes wrong THEY are the ones who are supposed to fix it…Anyways, 3,800 is an incredible amount of money for tearing out old tiles and putting in new. Especially if the old ones are loose because moisture is getting behind them, they would come out easily. Plus is he only going to replace the tiles that are between the tub and 24″ above it? That’s ridiculous.

Find a flooring store that sells/installs wall tiles, see if they do free estimates, have them come out and look at it. They’ll know what to do.

Plus if water is getting behind the tiles, that says to me it wasn’t grouted/caulked/sealed properly in the first place, and how is that your problem? Maybe they used a sanded grout instead of a Latex based grout….

  3. The current tile changed he would point out that you for just tiles that the current tile changed he still wants the current tile changed he would be replaced by you dont own.
