i am trying to replace my kitchen door to my garage, this is a standard door, not a patio or main entry door?
The door frame is breaking.. and the hinges on the door are falling apart.
What type of contractor do I need? a general contractor? a company that specialize on windows and door?
direct me to the right contractor.

a general contractor can handle this. u can also do this with a prehung entry door it is not that hard
tiffany; the door jamb is not a hard job, any framer or carpenter can do this job for you. expect about three hours max to complete the job @ maybe 45 and hour.
You can probably do this yourself. Go to your local home depot or hardware store and they will tell you what you need and how to do it. This would be a lot cheaper.
You can also find out about locations in your city that has salvage doors and windows. You might find something better and cheaper there.
Take measurements of your door frame and the thinkness of your current frame. Before you go anywhere.. buying or contracting someone.
I think you should do it yourself. Get a neighbor or even the town crazy teen can help you out for $ $ $.
You can purchase prehung doors including the casing..
You need to know the door dimensions, 32 or 36 inch width.
The door height usually needs to be cut to fit your threshold.
Any door service or contractor can do this.
A carpenter or even a handyman can install the door. You need to get a fire rated door for a home to garage entry, a regular interior door doesn’t meet building codes. When you purchase the door make sure you let the salesperson know where the door is going so he/she can direct you to the appropriate selection.
A general contractor can handle that easily. You could shop around for almost handyman who could replace the door. I would recommend that you replace frame, door, and all. He might be able to reuse the trim, but that will be your option.
