I lived in the same house for 20 yrs the house is older than I am about 80-90 yrs. The tub is now disgusting mold sits there and stare at you right in the face it makes my sick, its every where. How much would it cost to get another tub, shower doors, and replace the shower walls?

  1. A friend of my sister’s replaced mine for $1500.00
He replaced the vanity, sink, faucets, toilet, tub, shower tile, faucets there too, the medicine cabinet and the floor ceramic tile.

You could get an estimate from the classifieds in your local newspaper, handymen usually do these kind of jobs for less $$.
Or try businesses that specialize in remodeling and get an estimate, it pays off to shop around, also you could ask friends and neighbors, or your local church bulletin might also list someone who does that kind of work.

  2. Hey Amea,
It can get as costly as you want it to but you really can plan it out so everyone gets paid and you are happy. With an existing home I always recommend tiling the walls because its not real easy to get a full enclosure fiberglass tub/shower in the house.
You will need someone who knows what they are doing but just get the costing before anything starts. A good cast or composite material tub can cost between $125.00 and $350.00. Add a valve for around $125.00 and the material to connect around $100.00.
The walls need concrete board for the tile and then the tile. This cost will be up to you but even I have put in walls for myself and its not hard. Labor for the plumbing will run around $900.00 to remove and install the tub and then what you pay for someone to do the tile.
Figure around $1,500.00 for the parts and labor to remove and install the tub only. I suggest the composite material tub because it last and wont cool the water off like a metal tub. Let me know how it turns out or ask for more information.

  3. Do not get rough estimates as they are not helpful.

The best thing to do is to get free estimates from local remodel contractors in your area who could professionally remodel your bathroom in no time to your desire.

To help get free estimates, here’s a handyman site that has a section dedicated to home improvement, where you’ll find a home guru-Bob Villa-endorsed big orange ad that offers up to four (4) Free estimates from local remodel contractors in your area who could give you an estimate of the real cost involved in replacing your bathtub and walls (it’s the big ad found towards the left bottom):

So, get the free estimates to come to a conclusion on your own. Plus, there’s no obligation in getting the free quotes. From my general experience, you’ll be glad that you got concrete estimates as opposed to relying on worthless, rough, off-the-wall guesses here on Yah. Good luck in your remodeling efforts!
